21st February – Therm calculation
Feb 23 2011 in Uncategorized by bere:architects
In order to construct thermally efficient, cold-bridge-free buildings, bere:architects accurately calculate the heat-transfer effects in building components such as windows, walls, foundations, roofs, doors and other products before finalizing details where thermal bridges are of concern. bere:architects use thermal modeling software packages (either Therm or Heat 2) to assess their details in this manner prior to issuing for construction.
Below is an image of a Therm calculation that was produced for the wall-to-ground junction at Passfield Drive. The results of the calculation show a negative psi value for this junction which is a very good result. It shows that the below-ground insulation to the outside of the foundations is very important to the thermal performance of the building. The perimeter insulation below ground level significantly improves the performance of the floor.
